Bellingham School Hung Gar Curriculum

Level I

Level I (White Sash – Green Sash) Beginner

This level focuses on teaching the basic stances, footwork and hand techniques with emphasis on learning to co-ordinate the left and right sides of the body and hip rotation for power and timing. We also introduce basic Chi Gung (breathing exercises) drills to develop strength and endurance.

  3. Chin Chuen Kuen – Warriors Palm
  4. Gung Ji Fook Fu Kuen – Taming The Tiger Fist
  5. Hung Jeh Kwun – Monkey King Staff
  6. Chin Nin Kuen – Youth Fist

Level II

Level II (Advanced Green – Brown) Intermediate

This level introduces the student into more advanced concepts of training, philosophy and strategy. The world famous “Tiger & Crane Form” is taught with unlimited applications, and the first two man and double weapon sets are introduced.

  3. Fu Mei Darn Dao – Tiger Tail Broad Sword
  4. Fu Hok Sheong Yin Kuen – Tiger & Crane Double Form Fist
  5. Mui Fa Sup Sam Cheong – Plum Blossom
  6. Spear Sheong Dough – Double Daggers

Level III

Level III (Advanced Brown – Black) Advanced

This level introduces advanced theory of Yin and Yang (soft & hard, positive and negative energy) as well as combat theory. Sparring is a regular class activity working the techniques with massive repetition. Two man combat forms with and without weapons are trained as the student is conditioned both physically and mentally.

    1. Fu Hok Sheong Yin Kuen Doy Chak –Tiger & Crane Two Man
    2. Kwan Do
    3. Ng Yin Kuen – Five Forms Fist
    4. Jee Mow Dao – Butterfly Knives
    5. Ng Pa Gua Kwun – Eight Diagram Pole
    6. Hung Jeh Kwun Doy Chak – Monkey King Staff Two Man 

Level IV

Level IV (Instructor Training) ***Only Selected students are admitted into this level.

High level training for teaching ability, management, discipline, leadership and loyalty.
When the student is accepted into this level He/She is expected to show all of these qualities and act with the utmost discipline. Techniques must be practiced so every application is understood. Martial Theory must be researched, studied and practiced. All instructor level practitioners must have a solid understanding of Form, Combat theory, Sparring ability, Weapons, History, Philosophy, Morality and the classical texts of the “Art of War” and the “Book of Five Rings.”

    8. Darn Do vs. Chin Cheong – Sword vs. Spear
    9. Tid Sin Kuen – Steel Wire Fist
    10. Gau Dun Bian – Nine Section Steel Whip
    11. Sam Ji Kwun – Three Section Staff
    12. Chun Chow Dai Do – Spring Autumn Big Knife
